What is the IELTS exam? 

IELTS, as known as the International English language Testing System is an English language proficiency test that evaluates a candidate’s abilities in English on the basis of four modules that are Listening, reading, Writing, and Reading. The IELTS test is highly accepted worldwide. It is accepted by universities and organizations in Canada, the UK< the USA, Australia, Newzealand and many other English-speaking countries. 

It is a pen and paper-based test and candidates are given 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete the entire test. Students will receive their IELTS results within 14 working days. The IELTS result is valid for 2 years.

Eligibility of the IELTS exam 

Well, there is no restriction on age to be eligible for the IELTS exam. Similarly, there is no required qualification to appear for the IELTS exam. However, a student must have a valid passport to appear for the IELTS exam. Without a passport, a candidate will not be able to apply for the exam or enter the examination hall. 

IELTS Exam Modules

  • Listening: The listening module comprises four sections. Students will be given 30 minutes to solve four sections and 10 minutes to transfer answers on the sheet. There will be 10 questions in each section. Audio will be played only once. Students need to listen to the audio carefully and give correct answers. There will be fill-ups, complete the summary, map, MCQs and other types of questions in the listening section that students need to solve. 

  • Reading: The reading section lasts for 60 minutes and students need to solve 40 questions from three passages. There will be different types of questions such as MCQs, true, false and not given, fill-ups, complete the summary and so on. Students need to be very careful while solving questions to avoid traps. 

  • Writing: There will be two tasks in the writing section. In the first task, candidates will be given a chart such as a bar graph, line graph, map, pie chart, process diagram and so on. They need to write the information illustrated by the diagram. In the second task, they need to write on a topic that is given on the spot. 60 minutes will be given to solve both tasks. 

  • Speaking: The speaking task lasts for 14-15 minutes and comprises three parts. The first part is a general introduction part in which the examiner will ask you some personal questions. In the second part, you need to speak for 2 minutes continuously on a given cue card. Don’t worry! You will be given one minute to make your notes. In the third part, the examiner will ask some questions based on cue cards and you need to answer in 4-5 sentences. 

What is the cost of the IELTS exam? 

The current registration fee for the IELTS exam is 15,500 INR. There will be no refund if you do not appear for the exam or cancel your exam less than five weeks before the test date. However, if you cancel the exam more than five weeks before the test date, you will get a 75% of the total fee.

How to check the IELTS scores? 

You will get an SMS from the exam conducting body regarding your IELTS band scores. However, you can also check the eTRF by logging in to the account using the candidate ID given by the exam conducting body on your mail and the password set by you while creating an account.
